Rhode Island Federal School Codes (FAFSA)
Rhode Island State Overview
Federated state of the USA. Born in 1647 following the free union of the independent colonies of Providence, Portsmouth and Newport, it was one of the 13 original states. With a distinctly democratic and localistic orientation, it had a preponderant role in the rebellion against England. However, it only accepted federal union in 1790. He opposed the war of 1812 against Great Britain and that with Mexico. In 1919, together with Connecticut, it did not ratify the 18th amendment to the Constitution (➔ prohibition).
Providence is the capital city of Rhode Island, as well as its most populous city. Located at the head of Narragansett Bay on the Providence River, it is the third-largest city in New England. Known as the Creative Capital, Providence has a rich artistic and cultural heritage, with numerous universities and performing arts venues. The city’s vibrant downtown area features historic architecture, waterfront parks, world-class restaurants and shops, and is home to many of the region’s top attractions.
