Huawei had introduced a new high-end Smartphone with Android and 5.9-inch screen with the mate 9. The manufacturer on processor and graphics performance, as well as the camera has added compared to the P9, to Apple, Samsung and co. for overhaul. Main feature of the new Huawei mate 9 is the double camera created in collaboration with Leica on the back of the Smartphone. The same RGB image stabilized sensor 12 megapixels is presented here once, as he is also in the Huawei
P9. But now there are a 20 megapixel black and white sensor without a Bayer mask, which also has a focal length of 27 millimeters in the equivalent of the small picture and a focal ratio of F2. 2. The now higher resolution black and white chip is aimed among other things a largely loss-free double digital zoom. Logically, Yes just additional details are available to underpin the 12-megapixel photo in zoom with brightness information. Only the color information must be interpolated what concerns however only the color resolution, but not the sharpness of the image.
Finally, there is also the possibility, to give the photos an artificial depth of field at the mate 9. While Huawei uses the offset of the two cameras, to calculate a depth map and as background, subject and foreground to differentiate from each other. At your fingertips, the user determines which image areas should then be focused. With a virtual aperture ratio you can adjust the intensity of the effect. At very low depth of field the effect however quickly artificially, and errors become visible.
I find the noise performance of the camera personally very tidy. The detail reproduction is very good at ISO 50 and ISO 100, a first countermeasures of noise reduction against the luminance noise is visible – in the first intricacies, for example, if you have hair at ISO 200, visible loss of detail when you zoom into the image. This effect also on ungezoomter inspection is noticeable at ISO 400. Positive, I think that the sharpness is 1600 fairly stable through ISO.
Up to and including ISO 800 noise increases slowly and steadily, but the colour reproduction is very stable. At ISO 1600 finally which starts mate 9, since starting strongly against the color noise of the small image sensor, and the photos have clearly there what further reinforced at the maximum sensitivity of ISO 3200. Here however, hardly worth the effort with the RAW format for a better noise performance – I suspect only the material of the 12-megapixel RGB camera is used for the RAW photos. In JPEG mode the mate 9 increased the sensor surface but almost with the help of 20-mega pixel black and white chips, which ensures considerably clean photos. I have can achieve a better result with camera RAW, anyway – two sensors are just better than one.
Where however worth the trouble with RAW-format photos of very high-contrast motives are. Here, much information can be recovered in parent and underexposed areas of the image. With this recording I must say in fairness, that I deliberately have exposed on the building, to provoke an exemplary overexposed sky. The automatic would have represented here significantly darker underground, to not even so blatantly outshine the sky. But then you would have to live with dark buildings. The HDR function lightens a little, only dark areas of the image and is thus relatively poor of effect.
Still, even a dual-LED Flash available, which can adjust the color temperature of the emitted light to ambient light is in dark environments. This succeeds, maintain the existing illumination in photos with Flash. The auto focus of the Huawei mate 9 works very quickly and in most cases reliably. To focus the camera in addition to contrast and phase comparison autofocus uses also a laser auto-focus and the offset of the two cameras to each other.
In video mode, the Huawei Mate levers 9 4 k resolution. The recordings are in the H. 264-successor HEVC coding, also known as surprise – H. 265. That helps the memory saving, but also are disadvantages: currently YouTube does not support this codec as also many other programs – so you have the images before the upload recoding. Who cares, but is rewarded with pleasing detailed videos once again offering a Detailplus at least during daylight hours to full HD.
However, usually the full HD option might make more sense. The quality difference is not too significant, and in full-HD mode is a more effective electronic image stabilizer available, which filmed clips look also in the like of the steadicam. However, I had problems with a strange flicker of focus in several clips.
Then there is still a slow motion functions available: full HD’s comes even 240 frames per second 60 or 120 fps, 1280 x 720 pixels. This corresponds to a two -, four-or eight-fold slow motion. Compared to the non-slow motion shots, the quality is naturally low, but still usable. The sound of the video recordings is generally pleasing clear.
The front-facing camera finally offers 8 Megapixels and an auto-focus. There is not a Flash on the front, for the mate 9 in dark environments, but turn on the display, to act as lightning. During daylight hours, the quality of the photos is amazingly good, in low light conditions the rear camera is King then noticeably. (keh)
